The potential shortfall comes from independent research from Sopra Steria and National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) and is more than 20 times greater than estimates from the Scottish Fiscal Commission.
The paper follows a nationwide report 'Light at the end of the fiscal tunnel?', produced by NIESR that identified a £300 billion spending gap across the UK, and argues that rethinking public service delivery is critical to bridge the yawning spending chasm.
The report was commissioned to mark the launch of Sopra Steria’s revised strategy for its Government business in Scotland and was released at a launch event on Tuesday 19th June in Edinburgh.
