Providing Enterprise-wide Inventory Management Services to support challenging military needs

| minute read

Sopra Steria is a trusted partner to the Ministry of Defence (MoD) through helping to modernise logistics and support operations to ensure our armed forces personnel have the right equipment available when they need it.

The challenge

Defence supply chains are often long, covering multiple locations across extensive physical territories. In often challenging environments, with complex factors at play, ensuring the right military equipment is available can be extremely difficult. Previous systems were stove-piped and lacked data integration; therefore, significant transformation was needed to ensure inventory was managed efficiently.

The approach

Working in collaboration with the MoD and industry partners, our team of experienced defence specialists, many of them ex-military, replaced outdated legacy systems to provide single common inventory business processes, deliver cost efficiencies and ultimately ensure military demands can be met with accuracy through trusted master data.

The solution

This upgraded critical logistics system provides secure access for over 22,000 users to respond to military need events. Processing over two million inventory transactions a month, ranging from essentials such as boots and toiletries to aircraft parts, the tri-service integrated digitally enabled system provides a real-time global view of all inventory, at home and when deployed. This enables effective and fast decision making to ensure the supplies that are needed are allocated to the correct locations and teams at the right time.

The future

As a trusted partner Sopra Steria continues to provide support and maintenance for this critical system. We are proud to play an important role within the logistics systems’ ecosystem, supporting vital logistics operations and enhancing support advantage.

Meeting future military demands will require ongoing continual improvements, utilising new technologies, approaches, and greater collaboration across the supply chain ecosystem. We’re committed to working with the MoD to deliver innovative solutions that help them to achieve their vision founded on integrated digital solutions and services, that better serve the armed forces to enable them to protect the safety of our nation.
