Shared Services

We run two of the world’s largest multi-client, multi-service shared services

Sopra Steria on-boarded the shared service for the National Health Service in England in 2005, and the UK Government shared services for the Cabinet Office (SSCL) in 2013.

Sopra Steria is the country’s leading provider of shared corporate services to the NHS via NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS), a unique organisation which is jointly owned with the public sector.

Over 90% of government funding to the NHS is distributed via NHS SBS, which also provides shared payroll, pensions, procurement and consultancy services to NHS trusts, commissioners and Arm’s Length Bodies (ALBs). Over 99% of NHS trusts in England use one or more of its services, with typical efficiency savings of between 30 – 58% compared with in-house provision.

For the UK Cabinet Office, we on-boarded three large shared services, including the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) and are now providing services to 29 government agencies and departments, including the Ministry of Justice and the Home Office.

Our combined BPS and IT skills across consulting, transformation and delivery have been deployed to design and build new standard operating platforms. Our services range across finance & accounting, employee services, support and customer experience management.

We pay 260,000 public sector workers every year, handle 2.3 million customer contacts, make £36.3 billion of payments on behalf of clients and process 1.5 million invoices.

Why Sopra Steria?

Just as virtualisation and cloud are transforming IT agility, and mobility is transforming workforce productivity, Shared Services are reshaping the way we structure organisations and design work, and how we measure business and IT value, forever. As one of the pioneers of In Shared Services, Sopra Steria helps you assess the landscape, explore options, and apply proven best practices.

If you have a question on any of our services, or would like to discuss a shared services maturity assessment that checks the health of your shared service centre to see if it's at its peak performance, please contact us.
