Three Artificial Intelligence (AI) experts from Sopra Steria have been named on the Digital Leaders AI 100 UK List 2025. This annual list celebrates individuals driving the responsible design, deployment and governance of AI across the UK.

Selected from nearly 400 innovators, policymakers, business leaders, and charitable changemakers, the following AI leaders from Sopra Steria and its specialist consultancy division, Sopra Steria Next, are recognised for their impactful contributions:

  • Andy Whitehurst, UK Chief Technology Officer at Sopra Steria
  • Susannah Matschke, Head of Data & AI Foundations at Sopra Steria Next
  • Gary Craven, Head of AI Strategy & Transformation at Sopra Steria Next

This latest external endorsement shows how Sopra Steria and its experts are helping to drive ethical and innovative AI adoption across the UK. It comes after Sopra Steria was named one of Europe’s top suppliers of AI-related services by the internationally renowned PAC INNOVATION RADAR in 2024.

Andy Whitehurst established Sopra Steria’s UK AI Governance Board to provide strategic leadership and oversight for the responsible, safe, secure, ethical, legal and compliant use of AI, both within Sopra Steria and for clients across the public and private sector. Under his leadership, the Board is empowered to guide, champion and shape the deployment of AI across the business.

Andy said: “The rapid adoption of AI must be matched by governance that’s consistent, pro-innovation and pragmatic. Our AI Governance Board ensures that every deployment is not only cutting-edge, but also safe, responsible, ethical and aligned with our values.”

Susannah Matschke founded a ‘Women in AI’ community, creating a supportive space that equips women to join and shape the AI conversation, building skills, confidence and visibility in a traditionally male-dominated field. Susannah is passionate about lowering barriers to entry into the AI conversation, so that everyone has a seat at the table.

She explained: “Inclusion in AI starts with who’s in the room and strengthening a diverse range of voices. By providing spaces where women feel empowered to lead and contribute, we’re not just amplifying voices, we’re helping to ensure future AI development is fair and equal for all.”

Gary Craven’s design of Sopra Steria’s AI advisory services has seen him advocate and collaborate with government and academia on ethical and inclusive AI adoption. He has also helped to shape the AI strategy and thinking across industries such as energy, transport and policing, which seeks to address urgent societal challenges such as achieving Net Zero, improving network safety and reducing violence against women and girls.

Gary said: “Developing responsible AI isn’t just a technical challenge, it’s ensuring it delivers business value and positive societal impact, which needs to be taken seriously from the outset. At Sopra Steria, we’re committed to designing AI solutions that serve everyone fairly, transparently and with accountability at its core.”

The final order for the Digital Leaders AI 100 UK List 2025 will be decided through a combination of public voting and judges’ scores. Public votes can be cast here. Winners will be revealed at an event in the House of Lords on Friday 17 October 2025, during AI Week 2025.
