London, 17 September 2026 – Sopra Steria is joining a coalition led by London-based artificial intelligence lab Cosine to help shape sovereign AI capability for highly regulated and nationally important sectors.
The collaboration brings Sopra Steria into coalition with other industry leaders to support the development of Lumen Sovereign, Cosine’s sovereign AI initiative focused on frontier-scale models for software engineering and other high-value, tool-using work in secure environments.
As a key partner for transformation in complex, regulated and secure environments, Sopra Steria brings deep sector expertise to the coalition, along with vast experience delivering operational impact and productivity outcomes for critical national infrastructure and essential citizen services.
This includes the NHS finance system, which processes over £395 billion per year, and managing a savings book of more than £240 billion for customers at the UK’s government-owned savings bank.
The collaboration also reflects Sopra Steria’s broad approach to AI: helping complex organisations move from experimentation to responsible, industrialised deployment, by combining people, technology, transformation and operations to unlock measurable productivity benefits and deliver real-world customer outcomes.
The coalition is intended to help accelerate the adoption of sovereign AI applications across the public and private sectors where security, governance, operational resilience and deployment control are critical. It aims to explore how it can be applied to real-world operational challenges, helping organisations introduce advanced AI without any compromise on infrastructure, data and operating boundaries.
The key sectors include government, defence and security, financial services, healthcare, energy, aerospace and wider critical national infrastructure.
As artificial intelligence becomes more important to national capability, economic resilience and public-service transformation, organisations need AI systems they can rely upon in practice with their critical operations.
