Ranking underpinned by strong performance across the business and its joint ventures

LONDON, August 1st 2022 Sopra Steria, a European Tech leader recognised for its consulting, digital services and software development, has been ranked third in TechMarketView’s 2022 UK Supplier Ranking for Business Process Services (BPS).

This year’s report sees Sopra Steria ranked third and is quoted as having the strongest performance among the major multi-service providers, with revenues having grown organically by 24.3%. This was boosted by the organisation’s successful pivot away from traditional BPS to its focus on developing platforms which deliver real business outcomes, such as its FORS, UKVI and Debt Management offerings.

Strong performances by Sopra Steria’s two UK joint ventures contributed significantly to the growth, with Shared Services Connect Limited (SSCL) and NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS) representing 53% of UK revenues.

John Neilson, CEO of Sopra Steria UK, commented: “I am delighted with the improvement in our ranking, which has been achieved as a result of outstanding work by our teams and joint ventures.

“The BPS market is changing, and we take pride in having been recognised as a player which is steering the market away from traditional transactional outsourcing to one that’s creating meaningful change for our clients. We’re committed to continuing to develop our new generation of services which expand the scope of BPS offerings, providing future-focused solutions that are both intelligent and resilient, helping organisations better serve their customers, citizens and patients.”

The BPS market has changed significantly over the past few years, mainly due to the impact of the pandemic.  According to TechMarketView, the heritage market defined by ‘traditional ‘lift and shift’ BPO is declining, with a move away from the cost optimisation concept focusing on ‘back-office’ business processes. What we’re seeing in today’s BPS market is the permeation of digital and platform solutions which are transforming the entire business process value chain, addressing a wide variety of business objectives. The move to intelligent operations and new models of delivery, and the shift towards more transformative BPS offerings, have been key accelerators of growth.

David Morris, CEO at SSCL, said: 2022 saw some strong results for SSCL as we continued to deliver high volume assessments and recruitment for clients, all while managing payroll for over 500,000 UK civil servants and fulfilling major contact centre contracts. We also placed 19th in the Super Large Organisations category for the Great Place to Work survey.

“Having played a role in helping Sopra Steria rank third in this report is just another accolade we’re incredibly proud of and is proof that our work to help support customers achieve better business outcomes is working.”

Erika Bannerman, Managing Director at NHS SBS, added: "We are delighted that TechMarketView has recognised our commitment to the NHS at this critical time. Our digital and data-led services continue to transform healthcare administration, driving greater efficiencies and enabling the largest healthcare reform for a generation.”

These rankings are part of a series of reports assessing market and supplier performance which includes BPS Operations Market Trends & Forecasts and Supplier Snapshot, due later this year. You can read more on the report here.
