With more than three decades in policing and public service, Bex brings a wealth of experience to her role at Sopra Steria. From supporting frontline work in neighbourhood policing to complex investigations in serious crime units, her background gives her a deep and practical understanding of the challenges officers face on the ground.
Now working within the Public Safety Group, Bex helps shape solutions that reflect how policing really works, drawing on her lived experience to make sure systems genuinely meet the needs of officers, staff, and the communities they serve. Her career reflects a strong focus on people, process, and purpose, and she’s passionate about making sure technology never loses sight of the human at the centre.
Career highlights and experience
Bex began her policing career in 1993 and spent over 30 years in the force before joining Sopra Steria. She started work in the area of Criminal Justice and quickly moved into Crime Desk Management, building strong relationships with local communities and learning first-hand how trust, visibility and communication are key to effective policing.
As her career developed, Bex took on a wide range of roles, eventually settling in the Force Control Room, leading operational teams and helping coordinate high-risk, fast-paced incidents. Her work often focused on vulnerable people and high-harm cases, where compassion and calm decision-making were vital.
A graduate of the Positive Action leadership programme, Bex went on to join the intelligence unit, where she supported national and international initiatives through Europol and Interpol. Much of her work centred on tackling organised crime around major events, tracking criminal networks that operated across borders and jurisdictions.
Despite moving into more strategic roles, Bex continues to stay close to operational policing, regularly supporting live events and deployments to stay informed, grounded, and connected to frontline realities.
Putting people first
Throughout her career, Bex has been driven by a strong sense of purpose, to protect those who are vulnerable, to make a difference in people’s lives, and to support her colleagues through often challenging situations. She reflects most proudly on the cases where she helped victims feel heard, believed, and supported through difficult times.
Her experience in safeguarding, domestic abuse, and missing persons cases gave her deep insight into the human cost of crime and the importance of empathy, care, and clear communication. For Bex, successful policing isn’t just about catching offenders; it’s about making sure victims are treated with dignity and that officers are equipped to handle the emotional toll of the work.
Those values continue to guide her at Sopra Steria. She brings the same care and perspective to her role today, ensuring that every system or solution she works on is designed with the real-world needs of people, not just processes, in mind.
Supporting policing through technology
As part of Sopra Steria’s Public Safety Group, Bex plays a key role in shaping solutions that support operational policing. With a deep understanding of frontline pressures, she brings valuable insight into how technology should serve officers, control room teams, and the wider public, not add complexity to already demanding roles.
A strong advocate for intuitive, user-friendly systems, Bex ensures that solutions are designed in line with how officers actually work. Her background in digital transformation and governance enables her to act as a vital bridge between technical delivery and operational needs, ensuring user experience remains a core focus throughout.
Getting the basics right, from accurate information to well-structured workflows, is central to her approach. In Bex’s words, “Technology should support people to do their jobs, not distract them from it.”
Her aim is always to help create systems that reflect the realities of modern policing, informed by those with real-world experience.
