After a competitive tender process, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) has selected Sopra Steria as its partner to deliver a corporate GIS (Geographic Information System) solution for the Northern Ireland Government.
DARD's role is to promote the sustainable economic growth and development of the countryside in Northern Ireland. The Department assists the competitive development of the agri-food, fishing and forestry sectors of the Northern Ireland economy, to meet the needs of the consumers, the welfare of animals and the conservation and enhancement of the environment.
The GIS solution to be delivered by Sopra Steria will be a key business system for DARD in delivering upon these objectives, in particular the greater accuracy of land management through an enhanced Land Parcel Identification System (LPIS), increased payment accuracy of EU Grants & Subsidies under the current Common Agricultural Policy and 2013 reforms whilst at the same time simplifying the application process and enhancing the online experience for the agricultural community in Northern Ireland. This GIS architecture, delivered by Sopra Group, will be based upon best of breed products and open source tools integrated together to deliver a complete EU INSPIRE compliant solution for DARD.
