NHS SBS awarded best Shared Service Centre

Business support specialist NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS) - Sopra Steria's joint venture with Dept of Health - has scooped a top industry accolade, winning Shared Service Centre of the Year in the National Outsourcing Association (NOA) 2014 awards.

The judges singled out the best practice and extremely high level of support that NHS SBS, a leading provider of back office services to the NHS, provided to NHS England. NHS SBS, a 50/50 joint venture between the Department of Health and Sopra Steria, led the successful implementation of a financial platform that all 233 English health commissioning organisations now operate.

The platform, known as the Integrated Single Financial Environment (ISFE), replaced a plethora of legacy financial ledgers when the new commissioning groups were established, with one system that is now giving NHS England the visibility it needs to understand the state of the NHS finances, and is saving millions of pounds each year.

In particular the judges praised the determination of NHS SBS to overcome the challenges posed by the scale and complexity of the project. ISFE went live on-time for all organisations on one day in 2013 and by April this year had resulted in over three million invoices being successfully processed.

Dan Godfrey, solutions consultant for NHS SBS, commented: "We are delighted to have received this award. It celebrates the hard work of all of our team in bringing about a successful conclusion to a project that was being implemented at the same time that the NHS was undergoing one of the biggest transformations in its history.”
