Sopra Steria making a difference with Community Matters Week

9 October, 2017: At Sopra Steria, we recognise that the community is as important as our other stakeholders and throughout the year we try to do our bit as part of our sustainability initiatives. Our objective goes beyond straightforward fundraising and supports less privileged people to become more self-sufficient, for example by providing education or through the development of IT solutions that can help them.

We have three Sopra Steria themes:

  • Education, skills training and employment,
  • Digital Inclusion
  • Entrepreneurship

and also work closely with The Prince's Trust. Many other activities are for the benefit of charities that are close to employees hearts or local to them.

Thousands of Sopra Steria employees volunteer in different community programmes and reach out to many more thousands of people (children, students, disabled people, families...) in different ways throughout the world. Involvement in the community is not just a vision shared by a few, but a belief that is enthusiastically supported by our employees across the world.

This week (9 - 13 October, 2017) our Community Matters Champions have planned a wide variety of events across our UK offices and client locations and everyone gets involved and has fun while benefiting a number of charities and community projects.

Activities for our colleagues to get involved with include:

  • Volunteering at libraries to increase digital inclusion, especially for the elderly
  • Speed mentoring with young women at St Paul's Cathedral
  • Raising awareness for local mental health charities, especially on Tuesday, #MentalHealthDay
  • Car washes
  • Glass art sale
  • Cake bakes
  • 'Coppers for Community' buckets for pennies in our staff restaurants
  • Office Golf
  • Sprint the Stairs
  • Visits from local charities, such as Guide Dogs for the Blind
  • ...and more!

And to top our events, the "Sopra Steria Phonic" band members will play from a variety of offices and transmit via video-conference! Watch our Twitter feed for the results of that!

Last year, this week-long campaign resulted in over thirty good causes receiving a total of around £20K and this year we're looking to top that figure.
