Sopra Steria in Scotland supporting Career Ready to prepare young people for the world of work

Career Ready is a UK wide charity linking employers with schools and colleges to open up the world of work to young people.

August 2017: The Sopra Steria team in Scotland has been providing mentors and work placements to pupils in local Scottish schools since 2012. In 2016, and again in 2017, four students started their mentoring journey with our mentors which has helped them to gain experience of a business environment, built their confidence and given them the opportunity to be mentored by someone who is not a family member or teacher. All of this has been proven to greatly improve their chances of going onto college, university, an apprenticeship or a permanent role.

Here are some thoughts from two of our mentors:

“Mentoring has been one of the most rewarding activities I have undertaken – you can truly see the difference you are making in a young person’s life and it helps me see what I do in a different light.”
John French, Recruitment Business Partner

“Mentoring is an amazing experience and I have enjoyed helping a young person to focus on making it to 6th year and to understand the world of opportunities out there. It is very rewarding and reminds me what life was like aged 17.
Following her internship, my mentee said “working is not as bad as I thought it would be!“
Margaret Moore, Head of Business Development for Regional Government
