Sopra Steria colleague receives Chief Constable Commendation for exceptional work

London, UK, 1 June 2016: Sopra Steria's Michaela Atkinson has received a commendation for exceptional work from Cleveland Police's Temporary Chief Constable Iain Spittal, presented following an incident in which Michaela handled a call within the Police Control Room from a very vulnerable and distressed woman.

From time to time call handlers can receive calls relating to exceptional incidents and when Michaela received the call she had only worked in call handling for a matter of months. Michaela remained calm throughout the call, took full control of the situation and managed to guide the woman to safety and keep her calm until police arrived at the scene. A 32-year-old man was arrested for sexual offences.

Said Michaela"My main priority during the call was to get the female out of the house safely. It was the early hours of the morning and I was worried her phone battery may run out of charge before we found her. I didn't want her to be scared and wanted her to feel that she wasn't alone."

Since October 2010 Sopra Steria has been operating the Cleveland Police Control Room as part of a wider transformational strategic partnership. During this time the call takers have answered over 1.9million calls.
