Transforming services for the Armed Forces community

SSCL, part of the Sopra Steria group, recently won a large Ministry of Defence contract to provide critical workforce services to Armed Forces personnel. The Future Service Delivery Contract aims to fundamentally transform services for military staff, reservists and veterans, by introducing new digital technologies to improve their experience as service users.

Systems integration for logistics

We were the first company to develop a tri-service inventory management system. Management of the Joint Deployed Inventory for the Ministry of Defence replaces the three services’ separate stores management systems with a single inventory management information system capability.


Security through biometrics

Our Biometrics Data Capture System for the Ministry of Defence uses fingerprint and iris recognition to make positive identifications. It is currently operational across over 20 sites and considered to be an important tool in securing military facilities.

Secure communications

Our innovative and resilient military information management solutions include a secure Electronic Messaging Service for the Ministry of Defence. This processes 2,000,000 messages every month, manages an e-mail service with more than 380,000 users and tracks the delivery time of all messages.


Digital solutions for housing management

The Ministry of Defence’s housing management system administering tri-service families’ accommodation, including the online housing application e-form, is provided by Sopra Steria. Our solution supports the allocation of over 45,000 houses to service families and the management of around 20,000 move-in and move-out appointments per year as families transfer between geographic locations throughout the UK.

Sopra Steria has been awarded Silver Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) status. The ERS encourages employers to support defence and inspire others to do the same, aligned to the values of the Armed Forces Covenant. To achieve Silver Award, companies need to demonstrate that Armed Forces community engagement is a business priority.

The skills and attributes found amongst the Armed Forces community benefit Sopra Steria not only in its work as a key enabler of defence transformation programmes, but in a host of other industries.

Corporate Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme Bronze Award – setting our course for excellence in Armed Forces community engagement

At the end of July Prime Minister Boris Johnston announced the opening of a new Office for Veterans’ Affairs, a hub established to coordinate and drive Government policy on veterans’ mental and physical health, education and employment.
