Our Sustainability Strategy

Making a positive difference

Our Climate and Environmental Sustainability Strategy is focused around the biggest global risks facing society over the short and long-term, what our stakeholders expect from us and where we can make a positive difference.

To ensure that everyone across our company get behind the strategy one of the first steps we took before launching straight into developing a programme was to clearly define how actions around climate and environmental sustainability issues contribute to the company’s purpose and helps to create shared value for all our stakeholders.

Our vision

In the UK, Sopra Steria has done that through a developing a new vision statement that everyone in the company can relate to. The Vision Statement is in two parts, the first part states that

The World is How We Shape It and We Are Harnessing the Power of Innovation to Drive Positive Change in Business and Society.

This part of the vision is about people being encouraged to be empowered and to make positive change – to believe that they have control of their destiny and they really can shape the world. The second part of the vision statement says that

Our Business is First and Foremost About People. Our Services only matter if they work for people, our planet and, for us, if the serve a greater purpose too.

This part of the vision positions people and the environment at the heart of what we do as a business. Not just for those within the company but also for those that benefit from the services that we deliver. So, by working together we act on the opportunities to deliver a greater purpose.

A survey conducted by the World Economic Forum, in 2022, shows that 5 out of the 10 biggest global risks that society will face in the short-term relate to environmental issues. Whilst 6 out of the top 10 global risks, likely to occur over the long-term are also environment-related: From climate change, biodiversity loss to the shortage of natural resources.

We explored which issues are most relevant to our business and will allow our strategy to be impactful by addressing core challenges that need to be overcome so that society and our clients can successfully transition to a net zero economy.

At Sopra Steria, we acknowledge we can’t get to net zero alone. Getting there will require us to work together with our customers, employees, suppliers and other stakeholders who share our values and vision to shape a healthier planet. These are ‘our people’ and we seek to
empower our people and enable (systems, tools and technologies) that will allow all of us to collaborate and innovate across our business to accelerate our transition to net zero.
