ISTQB-BCS Qualifications

Certified Tester Foundation Level (CTFL)

For testers, test team leaders, developers, business analysts and anyone wishing to gain the ISTQB-BCS Foundation Certificate in Software Testing. This course, which we have been delivering since 2002, covers the ISTQB foundation syllabus using lecture sessions, exercises, practice exams and games to highlight key aspects of the syllabus to assist the delegate in the understanding of the concepts and methods presented. The afternoon of day three is dedicated to revision including a full sample paper taken under exam conditions. On the morning of the fourth day you will sit the ISTQB-BCS multiple choice exam.

In the last 12 months our training courses have produced a first-time pass rate of over 95%. Candidates needed to achieve 26/40 i.e. 65% to pass the exam - our average pass mark is 32/40 i.e. 80% (which would be a distinction if these applied at the Foundation level).

ISTQB-BCS Advanced Test Analyst

Sopra Steria offer public and client courses for Advanced Test Analyst, Advanced Technical Test Analyst and Advanced Test Manager certificates as public courses and also for clients. The change to the 2012 syllabus now means each of the certificates has its own syllabus rather than a single common syllabus as previously.

There are three separate multiple-choice exams with a certificate for each. The length of these courses, and the exams, has changed in line with the new syllabus and is now as follows:

  • ISTQB-BCS Advanced Test Manager* [5 days + 3 hour exam (65 Questions)]
  • ISTQB-BCS Advanced Test Analyst Certificate* [4 days + 3 hour exam (60 Questions)]
  • ISTQB-BCS Advanced Technical Test Analyst [3 days + 2 hour exam (45 Questions)]

* Both of these courses run in two formats – consecutive training days and also 'day-at-a-time' which also includes a revision day. See the training schedule for details.

Our timetable for these courses normally schedules the exam for the morning of the first working day of the week after the delivery of the course content itself. We used this approach for all courses against the old syllabus and the opportunity it offers for additional revision and preparation for the exam was much appreciated by all the delegates. It also helps ensure people arrive refreshed and relaxed rather than adding it on to the end of several (full) days of intensive study.

The expectation is in the future anyone taking the Advanced Technical Test Analyst course will normally take the Advanced Test Analyst course first but this is not mandatory.

We license the advanced materials from our long-term training partner, Grove Consultants, and have been primary licensee reviewers of their new materials.

Web Testing

Web Functionality Testing

While many of the traditional concepts of software testing still hold true, Web and eBusiness applications have a different risk profile to other, more mature, controlled environments. A Web tester may have to deal with shorter release cycles, constantly changing technology, complex software and hardware architectures and an unknown user base that could run into millions.

Many testers and test managers are being asked to make the transition from testing traditional client/server, PC, and/or mainframe environments to testing rapidly changing and complex websites. This training course seeks to help those making this transition by explaining these new technologies and suggesting test cases and techniques that can be included in a website's navigation, functional, usability, and compatibility test plans.

Web Performance and Security Testing

Many organisations are seeking to deploy mission-critical websites/applications that are intended to attract large numbers of visitors, often with significant revenue associated with the activity. This training course seeks to help developers, testers and test managers already experienced in testing small-scale websites understand the technologies needed to make websites more scalable, secure, and reliable.
